Do not buy the Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death DVD or the new Wallace & Gromit Complete Collection DVD.

Apparently, both DVDs present all the films in full-frame format, when both "A Close Shave" and "A Matter of Loaf and Death" were both animated and shot in widescreen. Even more puzzling, the documentary on making the movie is in anamorphic widescreen, so you can see all the stuff you're missing from the cropped shots.

The screen comparisons below compare the widescreen shot with its full-frame counterpart to demonstrate how much information is being lost because of this decision. Click on any image to enlarge to full-size, and note that the images below may contain spoilers:

The good news is that the Blu-ray disc presents everything in anamorphic widescreen that it can, and "A Matter of Loaf and Death" is still a lot of fun. If you can play it, it is the format of choice.
