Cool Stuff: Urs First posted Friday, September 18th, 2009

The culmination of three years of work, Urs is the thesis project of recent recent  Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg  graduate, Moritz Mayerhofer. The 10-minute short follows Urs as he sets out on a journey to find a better life for he and his aging mother.

Urs was completed in March of 2009 and is currently making its rounds at animation festivals that are nowhere near me. More insight into the creative process, as well as some gorgeous production artwork, may be found on the short's website and in this CG Society piece.

Unfortunately, only the trailer is available at this time. Though being unable to view the full short does make me a sad panda, the trailer does still provide a rather enticing glimpse into a world created using beautiful moody matte paintings and CG characters that mesh well with them. Join me in watching the trailer below and then being upset that we cannot see the entire short.
